BBC Teach | Supporting Care-Experienced Children
Mosaic Films
Mosaic have created a series of short films for BBC Teach which focus on the experience of care-experienced children, especially at school.
Designed to help primary and secondary teachers support care-experienced young people, three films are short animations, using the powerful real-life testimony of three care-experienced young people:
Molly’s Story - Navigating School When You are Adopted
Tai’s Story - The Impact of Going into Foster Care
Elliot’s Story - Being Moved Around the Care System.
Alongside the animations are three teacher-training films, featuring interviews with experts in the fields of adoption, care and teaching. These explore some of the challenges care-experienced children are more likely to face than their peers, both in and out of school, and what provisions a school can make to better support them.
The BBC Teach series will show how positive relationships with peers or members of staff can improve a child’s experience of school and therefore help transform their lives.
“This pioneering resource from BBC Teach features first-hand, frank and emotional testimony from young people who’ve experienced care and expertly shot teacher training videos featuring the UK’s leading experts. The result is a powerful collection of short films for schools which we believe challenges stereotypes, celebrates the resilience and success of the young people featured and helps teachers support care-experienced young people.” - Alex Harris, Executive Producer at BBC Teach.
The series can be viewed (by those in the UK) on BBC Teach here
