BBC Bitesize | Primary Modern Foreign Languages
Mosaic Films
This series of short films for BBC Bitesize follows French, Spanish and Mandarin speaking children across the globe as they share their cultures, traditions and customs - and of course, their language!
The aim of the series was to encourage language-learning but also to bring an depiction of a different culture alive for those in the UK. The films explore life on a global scale: we visit Normandy, Montpellier, the Ivory Coast, Barcelona, Tenerife, Colombia and Haulai and are taken to important festivals like the festival “des Rois” in France, the festival “of Sant Antoni” in Spain and Chinese New Year by our experienced young presenters, who explain the cultural history of each day and help prepare (and eat!) the traditional food served
Each film is an authentic depiction of these different children’s experiences and showcases what makes their hometown so exciting, from the architecture of Barcelona, to the lively markets of Normandy and the love of water sports off the Ivory Coast.
