Mental Health Awareness Week 2017

This week is officially the UK’s Mental Health Awareness Week (8th – 14th May) – an annual event hosted by the Mental Health Foundation. To mark this important occasion, our films on children’s mental health – ‘When I Worry About Things’, have been released.  This years theme is ‘surviving to thriving’ – looking at how normalised anxiety, stress and depression have become within society, as many face daily battles to keep their lives on track.

When I Worry About Things

When I Worry About Things is a series of animated documentaries for the BBC exploring the experiences of six children who suffer from mental ill health. Each of these five films tells the unique story of what its like to live with a mental health problem and how this can impact a young person’s life. The films provide a way to begin to understand some of the challenges that living with mental health presents with, especially from a young person’s perspective. Aimed at children at KS2, the goal is to shine a light on an age group who are increasingly vulnerable to mental health difficulties, and yet often lack the knowledge or resources to know how to seek help and support.

Animated Minds: Stories of Postnatal Depression

Animated Minds: Stories of Postnatal Depression is a series of 5 films highlighting personal stories of perinatal mental health issues. Animation is combined with personal testimony to give honesty and power to the narratives of 5 parents who have endured the trauma, fear and anxiety of mental distress before ultimately finding a way through. This series was produced by Mosaic Films for Wellcome Trust and the Maudsley Charity.
